The development of this “
Velos type 05” began in 1845. The Swiss military discovered it probably 1891. After the voting of the Swiss Federal Council the first "troops of cyclists" was set up by the federal army. Officially, the "Ordonnanzrad 05 ", as it called, was produced from 1905 until 1988 - there were a total 68,614 units. About 100 years it has been used for various orders such as transfers, attacks, defences, and monitoring. Framework, wheel fork, wheel hubs, rims, tires - the so-called "Wulstbereifung" etc remained unchanged until the cessation of production in the year 1988. Then it was discharged.
The indestructible Swiss Militarybike from high-grade steel, has no circuit, no suspension, has a dead weight of around 22 kilos but can still beaten a modern bice for example made of carbon fiber. It probably can not compete in the terrain, but in the city very good. It runs in a straight level, once brought in momentum, impressive light, quiet and stoic straight ahead, so you can have a speed shifter not missing.
It has three brakes: in the front, a back pedal brake and a drum brake in the rear.
As a synonym for durability and timeless elegance it is in the ranks of the
design classics and has already achieved cult status. It illustrates the quote " Imagine there is a war and everybody come by bike” – with this thinking the uniformed and armed Swiss cyclists are missing those seriousness, on which the military deterrence is based.
Last the bike caused a sensation, because in 2009 the Swiss Daniel Markwalder with its 100 years old Velo succeeded in the sprint against the cyclist Jens Voigt from the Tour de France team Saxo Bank on its current racing.
Very nice to look at on Youtube under “Wetten das ..?” A bet with Jens Voigt.

To this bike belong a second dynamo, another rear wheel, another front wheel, another rubber tube, a chain, a bottom bracket, the tools for the tool bag, the air pump and a kerosene lamp, which can be attached at the front. Yet can be accompanied by a Dutch child seat, which inserts in the aesthetic overall picture.
